BACKGROUND
Due to the resignation of Councilmember Bill Adams, the City was required to hold a Special Election to fill the vacancy of the unexpired term. The Special Election was held in accordance with state law requirements.
OVERVIEW
The City contracted with Dallas County and Collin County to hold the Special Election. The results of the Special Election are not final until a canvassing of the returns are done by the City Council.
POLICY CONSIDERATIONS
The City Charter specifies the returns of every election shall be made in accordance with the Texas Election Code, and that the City Council shall canvass the votes and declare the results of such election.

Approve an ordinance declaring the results of the Special Election of the City of Sachse held Tuesday, January 7, 2020 to fill the vacancy of an unexpired term for City Councilmember Place 4.
OVERVIEW
A Special Election is being held on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, to fill the vacancy for City Councilmember Place 4. If one candidate running for Place 4 in the Special Election does not receive a majority of the votes cast, a Runoff Election must be held. This item is placed on the agenda due to the timing of posting and the Special Election. If a candidate running receives a majority vote, this item may be withdrawn.
POLICY CONSIDERATIONS
The City will contract with both Dallas County and Collin County to conduct the Runoff Election. The City Charter states that if a councilmember does not receive majority of the votes cast, then a runoff should occur.
