The City of Sachse reserves the right to reconvene, recess or realign the workshop meeting, regular meeting, called Executive Session or order of business at any time prior to adjournment.

As authorized by Section 551.071(2) of the Texas Government Code, these meetings may be convened into closed Executive Session at any time during the City Council workshop or regular meeting for the purpose of seeking confidential legal advice from the City Attorney on any workshop or regular meeting agenda item listed herein.

A. SPECIAL MEETING OPENING

Subject: 1. Call to Order: The City Council of the City of Sachse will hold a Special Meeting on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Sachse City Hall, 3815 Sachse Road, Building B, Sachse, Texas to consider the following items of business:

The Mayor and Sachse City Council request that all cell phones be turned off or set to vibrate. Members of the audience are requested to step outside the Council Chambers to respond or to conduct a phone conversation.

Subject: 1. Consider an ordinance declaring the results of the Special Runoff Election of the City of Sachse held Saturday, February 1, 2020, to fill the vacancy of an unexpired term for City Councilmember Place 4.

BACKGROUND

Due to the resignation of Councilmember Bill Adams, the City was required to hold a Special Election to fill the vacancy of the unexpired term. The Special Election was held on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, and resulted in a Runoff Election due to the none of the candidates receiving majority vote. Therefore, a Runoff Election was ordered and held in accordance with state law and the City Charter.

OVERVIEW

The City contracted with Dallas County and Collin County to hold the Special Runoff Election. The results of the Special Election are not final until a canvassing of the returns is done by the City Council.

POLICY CONSIDERATIONS

The City Charter specifies that the returns of every election shall be made in accordance with the Texas Election Code, and that the City Council shall canvass the votes and declare the results of such election.

RECOMMENDATION

Approve an ordinance declaring the results of the Special Runoff Election of the City of Sachse held Saturday, February 1, 2020 to fill the vacancy of an unexpired term for City Councilmember Place 4.
